2025 San Antonio Overnight(4/13/2025)

On April 13th (Sunday night) Katherine and I went to San Antonio and stayed at Hotel Emma with Ava (our Papillon dog). We wanted to try travelling with Ava since we have a flight coming up so this was actually more about Ava than us.
Hints:
- a noise generator helps Ava from woofing and barking as hotel doors open and
close
Because on a future airplane flight Ava's dog carrier (with Ava in it) counts as a carry-on bag, Katherine and I packed in one bag. For a single over night it wasn't a problem at all, below is the bag fully packed.
Ava's dog carrier loops over the back of a standard airline roller bag handle. Below is a photo of Ava as we check into Hotel Emma.
We got a room with a "terrace" which worked out really well. In San Antonio weather (like Hawaii) the terrace acts as a separate room if (for instance) I'm awake and reading while Katherine is asleep. It also was nice for Ava to listen to the birds and people below, and a place for Ava's pee pad. See below.
The view from our "terrace" (balcony) over the San Antonio River Walk.
Just to document the room at hotel Emma we stayed at. It was small but "worked" for us.
Hotel Emma has an aesthetic of "old timey" but everything is modern and works well. The bathroom is pictured below.
Immediately outside Hotel Emma on Sundays is the market seen below. I thought the "Fried Chicken and Raclette Cheese" was an interesting concept!
A few yards from the Hotel Emma is "Mon Chou Chou" restaurant. We used to have a dog named "Chou Chou" (a term of endearment in French).
One of the things we had was Raclette Cheese. Now this was getting spooky because seeing the word "Raclette" twice within 100 yards in Texas is just strange. Raclette is a "procedure/food" from Switzerland, but also found in France. Below you see the waiter scraping melted raclette cheese off a huge cheese wheel at our table.
Ava (lower right) staring at ducks on the San Antonio River Walk. There are little tiny baby ducks center left of the photo near the wall. Click on the photo below to zoom in to see the baby ducks.
The San Antonio River walk has interesting sculptures along the way. Below are some flying fish sculptures.
The final picture below is just documenting the name of a restaurant that is inside Hotel Emma: "Supper American Eatery". Kind of a terrible name for web search engines, but the food is good. I had English muffins they make from scratch there that were very good.
That's it! All done!
